Tänak secured his first victory of the season at the Rally Sardinia last weekend. This win propelled him significantly up the championship standings, placing him in a tie for second place as he heads into the Polish round, the first of three consecutive fast rallies.

After a sluggish start to the season, Tänak has recently been back in the fight for victories.

“The first three or four rallies of this season lacked momentum and stability. After that, the blocks have started to fit together more, and the last rallies have been more positive,” Tänak says.

Following the Rally Poland at the end of June, Tänak will also compete in his home country of Estonia in the national championship event held alongside the European Rally Championship round. This offers Tänak an excellent opportunity to test the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 in competitive conditions ahead of the Latvian and Finnish WRC rounds.

Tänak hopes that the positive momentum will continue in the upcoming rallies.

“My most positive emotion with Rally Estonia is the victory in the first year (WRC 2020). After that, again, the blocks have not matched for some reason. This is what we hope to change and win again in the future,” Tänak explains.

Rally Estonia director Urmo Aava has previously mentioned that they are trying to attract other WRC drivers to the event. So far, no other top drivers besides Tänak have been confirmed for the competition.

However, WRC drivers are expected to head to Estonia during the summer. According to Aava, WRC teams are likely to test their cars in South Estonia between the Polish and Latvian WRC events.

This timing coincides with the Estonian ERC round, scheduled for July 5-7.
