Following the Central European Rally last weekend, Fourmaux confirmed once again that he will compete in the top class of the WRC next year, driving a Rally1 car.
However, the key question remains: Will the Frenchman continue behind the wheel of M-Sport’s Ford Puma Rally1, or will he make the jump to become Hyundai’s third driver alongside Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak?
Fourmaux has been linked to Hyundai in rumours, but no official confirmation has been made yet. After the Rally Chile at the end of September, Fourmaux hinted that his future would be clear before the Central European Rally, but that didn’t happen.
“We’ll need to be a little more patient. It’s taking a bit longer than expected,” Fourmaux said in an interview with the French rallye-sport.fr.
“There are details that need to be finalised. Once everything is settled, I will explain the reasons behind my decision,” he added.
Although Fourmaux has delivered excellent results this season, he faced difficulties in the Central European tarmac rally. He struggled to find good pace in the early stages, encountered technical issues, and was forced to retire after an off-road incident.
In the end, Fourmaux finished 32nd overall and collected six points on Sunday.
“Just a difficult Friday and Saturday with some technical issues, it’s not the result we would expect after winning the rally last year in the RC2 category.”
“The good point is that after we fixed the car on Saturday evening, we clinched the first fastest time of the day and third overall on Super Sunday, with one extra point for the Power Stage. So at least we showed some good pace on the Sunday,” Fourmaux summarised.
