Fourmaux was scheduled to wrap up his team’s pre-event test session on Thursday. His Hyundai teammates Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak had completed their runs earlier in the week on Tuesday and Wednesday at the team’s test area in Central Finland.

However, Fourmaux’s test came to an abrupt halt before noon when he suffered a heavy crash at a high-speed section. His Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car ended up in a ditch, resting on its roof with the skid plate facing the sky.

According to information obtained by RallyJournal.com, both Fourmaux and co-driver Alexandre Coria escaped the incident without injury.

The car sustained enough damage to force a several-hour break in testing. RallyJournal.com understands that the Frenchman returned to the test stage after 4 p.m. once Hyundai’s mechanics had patched the car back together.

Fourmaux finished third at Rally Finland last year while still driving for British outfit M-Sport Ford.

The French star moved to Hyundai for this season and has since claimed two podiums—third place at the season-opening Monte Carlo Rally and another third-place finish at the Acropolis Rally in late June.

Rally Finland kicks off next Thursday, 31 July.
