Greensmith took part in last weekend’s gravel rally in Portugal, where he finished third in the WRC2 class. But immediately after the event, his mind was already elsewhere.
“It was always part of the plan that the start of the year would be very quiet – or as quiet as it could be – because there are some things more important in life than rallying. And this is one,” Greensmith told RallyJournal.com.
“So this was the last one (event) we were going to do, to give myself a bit of time before the wedding, and then get back in Greece. Then we have a very, very busy second part of the season,” the Brit added.
Greensmith’s wedding will take place in mid-June in Jyväskylä Finland, just a couple of weeks before the Acropolis Rally in Greece. He has been in a long-term relationship with Finnish Jessica Malin, who hails from Central Finland.
Greensmith proposed to Malin in 2022. The couple currently lives in England, but they decided to hold the wedding in Finland.
“Jessica is from Jyväskylä. And one of my favourite places in the world is Jyväskylä, so it made perfect sense. And if the weather’s nice, then it should be pretty good,” Greensmith smiled.
The Brit had hoped for a small and intimate celebration with close family and friends – but his fiancée had other ideas.
“There’s a lot of people coming to the wedding that shouldn’t have been coming to the wedding. It ended up being a big wedding. I wanted like 30–40 people, Jessica wanted 160 – so I lost that one,” Greensmith chuckled.
Still, he’s certain that the day will be one to remember.
“It’s involving me, so yeah, there’ll be a big party,” Greensmith promised.
In Portugal, Oliver Solberg claimed victory in the WRC2 class ahead of Frenchman Yohan Rossel and Greensmith. Finland’s Roope Korhonen finished fourth.
