Just a few years ago, Huttunen was knocking on the doors of WRC teams, delivering impressive results in the lower categories of the World Rally Championship. Huttunen was a long-time member of Hyundai’s WRC2 team before switching to M-Sport Ford for the 2022 season.
In the summer of 2022, a significant financial investment was made in Huttunen’s career when he was provided with M-Sport’s Ford Puma Rally1 car for Rally Finland. However, the opportunity was thwarted by technical issues with the Ford.
Last year, Huttunen primarily competed in the Finnish Rally Championship, but he also participated in the Swedish and Finnish WRC rounds.
After the 2023 season, Huttunen vanished from the rally scene. The reason was clear: funding for rallying was tight.
Now, Huttunen has shared some happier news. He plans to start in the Lahti Historic Rally, which takes place in mid-August. The rally ace from Finland will be driving a Ford Escort.
“Entering the Lahti Historic Rally with the BDA! I have the car, the desire to drive has never faded, and after a long break, it would be nice to run a proper rally! If we find a few more sponsors, it will be confirmed,” Huttunen announced on his Facebook page.
Huttunen would be a fantastic addition to the lineup of the international historic rally in Lahti, Finland. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Toyota WRC team principal Jari-Matti Latvala, along with co-driver Janni Hussi, will also be participating in the event.
The Lahti Historic Rally will be held from 23rd to 24th August.
