Solberg was in a class of his own throughout the event and secured a commanding win in the WRC2 category.
The conditions at the Greek WRC round were extremely demanding, but Solberg tamed them with exemplary control. His clean and dominant drive seemed to surprise even Solberg himself.
“I don’t know what to say. That was quite… Normally I have a lot to say, but this time—nothing,” a stunned Solberg admitted.
Solberg’s plan for the rally was clear from the outset.
“We made a plan together on Thursday night. On the way up to it, it was like: okay, we find a good rhythm, we keep our eyes very open,” Solberg said.
Solberg’s drive in Greece was a masterclass in strategy – the exact kind of performance that typically brings success in the toughest gravel rallies.
“We made the decision that we would drive around every rock we find, even if we lose time. And then, just on the places we know, it’s okay—we push on. I know that if I push on, I can take time. And then also time management Saturday helped a lot. So, you know, it’s been perfect. And on Sunday I could just cruise,” he explained.
In terms of pace, Solberg has already proven himself at the WRC2 level. But in Greece, he managed to reach yet another level in brutal gravel conditions. He held his performance in high regard.
“My best victories—it’s always Rally Sweden. It’s almost always my favourite. And Finland, you know—they’re always my best, because there you need performance, and also there are so many guys fighting. But I think consistency-wise, control, and speed—from my point of view—this weekend is probably the best weekend I’ve had in that sense,” Solberg enthused.
