Biasion will drive the so-called course car at next weekend’s Rally Città di Bassano event.
Biasion and his co-driver Gianfranco Menon will take the wheel of a Lancia Ypsilon Rally4 HF. The pair will drive through the special stages ahead of the actual competitors, ensuring that the route is safe before the rally begins.
Although this is a demonstration run, Biasion’s presence carries enormous symbolic value for Lancia. The manufacturer has confirmed that it is currently developing a Rally2 car, with the ambition of returning to the top level of rallying.
At this point, Biasion is undoubtedly the best possible ambassador for Lancia. After all, he won both of his World Championships with the marque. His name is strongly associated with Lancia’s golden era in the World Rally Championship.
Biasion, 67, first rose to prominence in the rallying world in the early 1980s, when he won both the Italian Championship and the European Championship — both, of course, at the wheel of a Lancia.
The highlight of Biasion’s career came at the end of the 1980s. He clinched the World Rally Championship titles in 1988 and 1989, driving the iconic Lancia Delta.
