The legendary Ouninpohja stage is run twice on the final day of the rally. Toyota drivers made the most of their strong road positions and secured an incredible 1-2-3-4 sweep on the first pass through the stage.

Elfyn Evans was the stage winner, edging out Sébastien Ogier by just 0.4 seconds. Rally leader Kalle Rovanperä was third, only 0.6 seconds behind Evans’ benchmark time. Takamoto Katsuta followed Rovanperä, 1.7 seconds down on the stage-winning pace.

Rovanperä holds a commanding lead of over half a minute heading into the Ouninpohja Power Stage. This means he can afford to drive conservatively to seal his first-ever win at his home rally.

However, Rovanperä’s comment after the first run through Ouninpohja hinted he isn’t planning to back off. Sunday’s stage times award points both for the day and for the Power Stage – and Rovanperä needs every possible point in his world title fight.

“Surprisingly good time, considering I was doing quite a bit of bouncing around. The gaps are really small, but I could go faster if I wanted. We didn’t do anything crazy. Let’s see if we can take a few points on the Power Stage,” Rovanperä remarked coolly.

Katsuta, Ogier, and Evans are locked in a battle for the remaining podium spots. Katsuta currently holds second, but Ogier is lurking just 5.5 seconds behind. Evans, after topping the Sunday opener, is now only 1.1 seconds behind Ogier.

“That was a good run from us. It’s hard to make a difference here, but everything went well,” Evans reported.

Toyota holds an astonishing 1-2-3-4-5 before the final stage. Sami Pajari is fifth ahead of Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux, who both suffered punctures on Saturday.

The first pass through Ouninpohja made it clear that Hyundai drivers face an almost impossible task to score big points on Super Sunday. Among them, Fourmaux is in position for a single point after finishing fifth on the stage, 2.7 seconds off Evans’ time.

There’s also an intense battle brewing in the WRC2 category. Roope Korhonen still leads, but Jari-Matti Latvala closed the gap by a few tenths and is now just 1.3 seconds from the top spot.

The Power Stage run through Ouninpohja, which concludes Rally Finland, starts at 13:15 local time.
