This season, Lappi is only competing in select events, but beyond this year, the Finnish driver’s future remains open.
Will Lappi continue as a part-time driver? Will his career with Hyundai continue, or is he even interested in rallying at the top level anymore?
These are questions many rally fans are currently pondering.
“I have been so well on holiday from the team boss as well that it wasn’t until Wednesday that I received the first message asking ‘how are things going’. It’s been an eternity since we last talked,” Lappi told RallyJournal.com ahead of the Rally Latvia.
“There haven’t been any discussions at all. Let’s see how these next couple of races go. If I perform well, then I suppose I’ll at least get to continue,” Lappi added.
Lappi has mentioned several times this year that he has enjoyed being a part-time driver. Against this background, it seems unlikely that Lappi will return to being a full-time driver in the WRC.
“At the moment, this decision feels really good. Part-time driving could definitely be of interest,” Lappi said.
Rally driving can also be quite lucrative. So, if a sufficiently good offer came along, would Lappi take it and drive a full season in the WRC again?
“No. The amount of money doesn’t determine it,” Lappi stated firmly.
“Money doesn’t bring happiness. It enables things, but even if they offered me 50 million, I still wouldn’t drive a full season,” Lappi declared.
