The reigning Junior WRC champion crashed out on the very first special stage. Driving a Ford Fiesta Rally2, Jürgenson went off the road and into a guardrail, ending his rally before it had really begun.

“Not the best start to our Rally Islas Canarias sadly. We got stuck due to a pacenote error and even though there isn’t too much damage to the car, we can’t sadly continue today,” Jürgenson explained on social media.“It’s a team game and these things can happen, will reset and continue tomorrow,” he added.

Jürgenson, 25, is in his first full season in the WRC2 category. He’s also competing in the British Rally Championship this year with the support of British outfit M-Sport.

The young Estonian has made a sensational rise to the second tier of the WRC. His career took off in 2022 after he won the FIA Rally Star programme – a competition based on sim racing. His prize was a season in the Ford Fiesta Rally3 car in 2023.

Thanks to his strong performances, he earned a full-service drive in the Junior WRC for 2023. After clinching the JWRC title, he secured a prize package that included free entries to WRC2 events for this season.

After the first three stages in the Canary Islands, Frenchman Yohan Rossel leads the WRC2 category.
