Heikkilä has maintained a good pace throughout the weekend and is fighting for a podium spot on the Estonian gravel roads.
After ten special stages, Heikkilä is in third place in the rally. The Finn is 25.1 seconds behind the leader.
“Overall, we had a pretty good day, especially on three stages. We need to find the right rhythm”, Heikkilä planned at the finish of the last stage of the day.
The fight for the rally win is being contested by Estonian drivers to the delight of the home crowd. Robert Virves is leading, but only by one second ahead of fellow countryman Georg Linnamäe.
“This was a good day. A fantastic battle. There is only one second between us, so tomorrow we go again”, Linnamäe summed up.
Teemu Asunmaa is in 11th place after two days of driving. He is one minute and 45 seconds behind the leader. Benjamin Korhola’s rally ended in retirement on the fifth special stage.
Saturday at Rally Estonia also offered plenty of drama when WRC star Ott Tänak crashed out heavily. Fortunately, Tänak and his co-driver Martin Järveoja emerged unscathed from the severe crash, but there was not much left of their Hyundai rally car.
Rally will continue on Sunday with four more special stages.
