Korhonen has had a packed month of May. Over just four weeks, he has competed in a national rally in Portugal, an ERC round in Hungary, and a WRC round – also in Portugal. The Finnish hopeful claimed victory in Hungary’s ERC event and finished fourth in WRC2 in Portugal.
Now he heads to the Royal Rally of Scandinavia, driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, with a top result clearly in his sights.
“We can’t have any other goal than victory,” Korhonen stated firmly.
“Conditions will be completely different compared to Hungary. The stages resemble Finnish roads but are narrower, and there appear to be plenty of anti-cut obstacles. I’d say these are precision-demanding stages where there’s no room for mistakes.”
At the Swedish ERC rally based around Karlstad, Korhonen will face stiff competition from drivers such as Andrea Mabellini, Mikolaj Marczyk, and Mads Østberg. Among the home favourites, promising Swedish drivers Isak Reiersen and Mille Johansson will also be on the starting line.
“We’ll get to do a short test, but most likely we’ll run with setups familiar from Finland. There are big names on the entry list, and many of them have driven this rally several times before, so we’ll definitely need to be fast right from the start,” Korhonen said.
The Royal Rally of Scandinavia kicks off on Thursday with a qualifying stage during the day and a spectator-friendly opening super special in the evening. The rally will conclude on Saturday after 17 special stages.
