While Korhonen is still competing for the Finnish Rally Championship title, he won’t be participating in any more WRC events this season.
Korhonen has competed in four WRC2 rounds this season. He raced earlier this year in Sweden, then in Portugal, Poland, and Finland. However, Jyväskylä’s Rally Finland was his last WRC event for this season.
“We probably won’t be doing any more WRC events this year. We’ll start planning for the future,” Korhonen confirmed to RallyJournal.com
While plans for the future are underway, Korhonen’s calendar for next year remains empty for now.
“I don’t know anything yet,” Korhonen admitted.
Korhonen’s season with Toyota’s Rally2 car has been somewhat mixed. The season began impressively with a victory at the Riihimäki Finnish Rally Championship event, followed by a third-place finish at Arctic Lapland Rally. In the Swedish WRC round, Korhonen finished fourth in the WRC2 class.
After Sweden, Korhonen won the Finnish Championship rally in Tuuri and finished second at the Pohjanmaa Rally, held after the WRC event in Portugal. Just over a week ago, he secured another win at the Lahti Finnish Championship rally.
However, in the WRC rounds, Korhonen has had to settle for lower positions. He finished sixth in the WRC2 class in Portugal, eighth in Poland, and again sixth in Finland. He currently sits 11th in the WRC2 standings.
