Munster finished sixth overall and dedicated the result to a lost loved one.
“It’s been a very demanding rally – mentally, physically, but also emotionally. On Wednesday, my grandfather passed away during shakedown. So yeah, it was important to get a good result because I know he’s watching up there,” an emotional Munster said at the finish.
Munster made it to the finish line of one of the most demanding rallies on the calendar – a solid achievement, especially considering that this year’s Safari Rally forced many more experienced drivers to retire.
“It was really tough this weekend, but we managed to continue. We never gave up. Two stages from the end, I was still thinking we wouldn’t finish the rally because of the gearbox, but thanks to the girls and boys at M-Sport, they managed to fix it in 16 minutes,” Munster praised his team.
He concluded with a heartfelt message to his late grandfather:
“For us to finish the event and bring home sixth position – it’s a beautiful farewell,” Munster said.
