Competing in the WRC2 category, Greensmith was fighting for the top positions before the final stage on Friday. However, he did not make it to the end of the opening day of the Acropolis Rally.

The final stage on Friday, the Tarzan special stage, proved to be the downfall for the British star driving a Skoda.

“Cows are no longer my second favourite animal,” Greensmith said on social media.

“We hit a cow on SS6, which caused terminal damage and takes us out of the fight for the podium.”

According to Greensmith, the damage to his Skoda Fabia was severe enough to prevent him from continuing in the Acropolis Rally on Saturday. However, there was a somewhat happy ending to the story.

“The cow walked away fine,” Greensmith clarified.

Estonian Robert Virves leads the WRC2 class in the Acropolis Rally ahead of Saturday’s special stages, with a 1.5-second advantage over Finland’s Sami Pajari.

Frenchman Yohan Rossel controlled the WRC2 category for most of Friday, but he suffered a puncture on the final stage of the day. The Citroen driver will start Saturday’s stages in sixth place, just over a minute behind Virves.

The Acropolis Rally continues on Saturday with six special stages.
