This marked Fourmaux’s fifth podium of the season, having also finished third in Finland, Poland, Kenya, and Sweden. Once ousted from the Rally1 team, the Frenchman made a strong comeback this year, leaving nothing to chance.
Fourmaux has become one of the most intriguing names in the WRC’s transfer market. Rumours suggest he might move to Hyundai next season, which raises the question: was this his final rally with Ford?
“I’ve been driving for five years now with the team, always for Ford. It´s been good and this has been a good year. Let’s see what what the future brings, we’ll see. Anyway, doesn’t matter where I am. It’s been a good year,” Fourmaux said, keeping his future plans cryptic.
Toyota is set to announce its plans for next season on Monday morning, and Hyundai is also expected to reveal their line-up soon. For now, Fourmaux focused on celebrating his strong season rather than commenting on his next steps.
“It’s been a really great year. Really pleased with what we have done with the team. It was a big challenge because in the beginning of the year, they were losing Tänak. The car was not playable. Then the future was quite dark. But at the end, I think we showed the lights and it was really, really positive with them,” Fourmaux said with enthusiasm.
“We have been fighting with the others over the year, so that’s really great. I´m really happy for my comeback. Last year was a good year, but It seems that nobody is watching it, but when it’s Rally1 level, it’s completely different.”
Fourmaux’s next goal is to become a winner in the WRC. While he already has a string of third-place finishes, he’s aiming for bigger victories.
“I want to get the victory. I want to get second position also and then victory but even more victories.I’ve learned from last year. I think that’s the thing. Just follow my way. I’m a little bit more selfish than before. I don’t care about the team. I just care about myself. But it seems that it’s working also for the team” the Frenchman concluded.
