Roberts lost his life in a fatal accident during the Jim Clark Rally in Scotland on 24 May. While rallying has brought the Roberts family many memories, it has also delivered heartbreaking losses.

Dai’s younger brother, Gareth “Jaffa” Roberts, was also killed in a rally accident back in 2012 while co-driving for Craig Breen. Breen himself tragically passed away in a testing accident in 2023.

Dai Roberts was a well-known and much-liked figure in the British rallying scene. Following his death, the rallying community quickly rallied to support his family.

Experienced British drivers Damian Cole and John Stone launched a crowdfunding campaign to help the Roberts family, initially setting a target of £10,000 to assist with funeral expenses and other costs.

The response was overwhelming: within just 24 hours, over £100,000 had already been raised. By Friday, the total had exceeded £125,000, with almost 1,800 individual donations made to the fund.

The campaign has drawn support from across the motorsport world, including high-profile names from the World Rally Championship. Among them were co-drivers Scott Martin and Aaron Johnston, M-Sport Ford driver Josh McErlean and M-Sport team principal Richard Millener.

“Rest easy Dai. You were a man who gave so much to this sport, the entire rallying community was lucky to have you and your dedication. Your name will live on for generations to come,” Millener wrote alongside his donation.

Numerous other drivers, co-drivers, motorsport clubs and communities have contributed to the campaign – not to mention the many private individuals and family friends who wanted to show their support.
