Sesks took part in the Cesis Rally with his Škoda Fabia RST Proto and seized control of the event right from the opening stage. However, Sesks, who has started a total of seven WRC rallies with the M-Sport Ford team, crashed heavily on the final stage of the rally. Before going off the road, Sesks had built a lead of almost two minutes in the competition.

On the last stage of the seven-stage Cesis Rally, the 26-year-old Sesks lost control of his car on the landing of a jump. The car veered into a ditch and rolled several times end over end. Sesks and his co-driver Reinis Francis nevertheless escaped the crash without any serious injuries.

“Unfortunately, this rally did not end the way we wanted. This time we ended up at the bottom of a ditch. I don’t know if I came into that big jump too fast, but in my opinion everything should have been under control. Apologies to the fans, but maybe this means that I have to come back to this rally again”, Sesks said in his Instagram video.

Because of the crash, victory in the Cesis Rally slipped across the border to Estonia, where Karl Martin Volver, also driving a Škoda, came out on top. The Estonian’s win came with a margin of just over 14 seconds ahead of Mitsubishi driver Ralfs Sirmacis.

Sesks’s season in the World Rally Championship was a poor one. Competing with M-Sport machinery, the Latvian’s best result was sixth place in Sweden in February. He finished eighth in both Finland and Estonia, while in Sardinia, Greece and Portugal he failed to score points.

However, the Latvian did show flashes of top pace in the European Championship round in Poland during the summer, which he won in dominant fashion.
