Toyota has been able to show good pace very consistently throughout the year, whereas Hyundai’s performance level has fluctuated.
In recent rallies, this has been highlighted in a harsh way. Hyundai may have started strongly and even taken the lead early on, but then the pace has faded.
And the outcome has been all too familiar: Toyota has celebrated victory, while Hyundai has watched from the sidelines.
It could well be said that Hyundai’s Adrien Fourmaux would already be a WRC rally winner if Hyundai had managed even slightly more consistency than what has been seen so far.
“For me, it is definitely difficult,” Fourmaux admitted frankly.
“This will be to investigate what is going wrong,” Fourmaux demanded.
According to Fourmaux, Hyundai has plenty of room for improvement.
“There are many things we can work on in the car with the dampers, and if so, we need to work on it,” he underlined.
Hyundai currently has many irons in the fire as it prepares to take part in the WEC next year. The overlap of projects cannot have failed to affect performance, but Fourmaux still feels he is receiving sufficient support from the team.
“There is commitment from the team, no question about that,” Fourmaux said.
“We just have to accept that we are learning and we need to improve for next year, that’s for sure. But for them, they just continue to improve their cars, and they know where we started a bit from new” Fourmaux added.
