Hyundai’s machinery and team’s star drivers were not at their best in the season-opening Rally Monte Carlo. Toyota walked away with a major haul from the event, securing a one-two-three finish led by Oliver Solberg. Among the Hyundai drivers, Fourmaux finished fourth, while Thierry Neuville came home fifth.
Fourmaux has fond memories of the Swedish winter rally held around Umeå. He claimed the first podium finish of his WRC career in Sweden two years ago, finishing third in an M-Sport Ford.
Last year, Fourmaux was involved in the fight for the lead for a long time, but eventually the snowbanks caught up with the Frenchman.
This time, Fourmaux’s aim is to battle for a top result right to the end. He plans to take inspiration from Toyota driver Solberg, who delivered a sensational performance in Monte Carlo.
“It was very good to see Oliver fighting, and at least he showed in the same car that Elfyn (Evans) and Sébastien (Ogier) are not unbeatable. So that is quite good,” Fourmaux said, according to the WRC website.
“I wish it had been me (as the fresh face winning), but let’s see at the next event.”

Solberg produced an outstanding performance in Fourmaux’s home event in Monte Carlo. Now the Hyundai driver is aiming to turn the tables.
Solberg is one of the leading favourites at his home rally, but Fourmaux, who is still chasing his first WRC victory, issued a strong challenge to the Swede.
“I was quick in Sweden before and I like Sweden. Oliver won in Monte Carlo, so I need to win in Sweden,” Fourmaux grinned.
Rally Sweden will be held on 12–15 February.
