Rossel has driven a Citroën in the WRC2 category since 2022 and has been a key name for the manufacturer in the World Rally Championship ever since.
Citroën belongs to the same Stellantis group as Lancia, which has already confirmed that it is developing a Rally2 car for next year. At the same time, Lancia is set to replace Citroën as the group’s number one brand in the World Rally Championship.
Stellantis’ motorsport boss Didier Clément has already strongly hinted that the experienced Rossel could be an excellent first signing and a figurehead for Lancia’s comeback in the WRC. In any case, Rossel will no longer be driving a Citroën next season.
“I think it’s clear for everybody that it’s my last [WRC] event with the Citroën after six years,” Rossel confirmed to DirtFish after Rally Chile.
“For me the plan [was] just to do the maximum and to have the best option for next year and also for 2027,” he continued.
However, Rossel did not directly confirm that he would be taking the wheel of a Lancia next season. Still, there was much to be read between the lines.
“For me the plan is just to have a good vision on 2027,” Rossel said.
“Everybody knows the relation I have with Stellantis. It helped me a lot every time when I started the rally and, for sure, it will be a dream to be a factory driver in Lancia. But we need to see every option” Rossel added.
