Jonne Halttunen is facing a busy year ahead, even though he is no longer competing in the World Rally Championship alongside Kalle Rovanperä.

Last autumn, two-time drivers’ world champion Rovanperä announced that he would step away from the WRC and move to circuit racing in search of new challenges.

That decision meant Halttunen was left without a co-driver seat at the top level of the World Rally Championship. However, the two-time world champion still has plenty on his schedule this year.

It was confirmed on Monday that Halttunen has secured at least one new role. He will work this season as an expert analyst for Finnish broadcaster MTV during its WRC coverage.

Since the end of last season, Halttunen has taken things a little easier and has spent recent weeks relaxing in Lapland. But a different kind of routine now lies ahead.

Halttunen has previously stated that he would like to remain involved in rallying. A new role could emerge, for example, with his long-time employer, Toyota’s WRC team, or within the World Rally Championship organisation itself.

Halttunen recently hinted in an interview conducted by former driver Kristian Sohlberg that news regarding his future plans could surface in the near future.

“My calendar has filled up quite nicely. I’ve been putting together some new work arrangements, but unfortunately I can’t reveal them yet. If everything goes the way it has been discussed – and I believe and trust that it will – then a very full year lies ahead.”

“In addition, I’ll be doing some analyst work for MTV. And then I have the idea of competing in around ten rallies. But those will just be for fun,” he added.

Halttunen has previously confirmed that he will compete this year as a driver in Finland’s F-Cup, driving his own Toyota Corolla.
