Rally ace Rovanperä already demonstrated earlier this summer that he has the pace for circuit racing as well. The Finnish star claimed victory in his fourth Porsche Cup race at Imola in July.

Now, Rovanperä is gearing up for his third race weekend of the season behind the wheel of a Porsche. Once again, he’ll be racing in iconic surroundings as points are contested at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

Saturday will feature qualifying and the first race, with the second race taking place on Sunday.

Rovanperä and the other drivers in the series will face extremely challenging races. Rain was already falling during Friday’s free practice sessions, and according to forecasts, the rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend.

Temperatures are also very low, with mercury reading just 6.8°C during the second free practice session on Friday.

In Friday’s first practice session, Rovanperä placed seventh, trailing Dutch driver Sam Jongejan’s fastest time by 1.149 seconds. In the second practice, Rovanperä improved his position, setting the fifth-fastest time, with a gap of 0.456 seconds to the fastest lap set by Dutchman Niels Langeveld.

Qualifying for the Porsche Cup at Red Bull Ring takes place on Saturday at 11:00 Central European time. The first race is scheduled for Saturday at 17:05.
