Rovanperä has struggled all season with Hankook tyres, but recently the Finn’s issues have eased somewhat.
Already in July in Estonia, Rovanperä realised how to drive with Hankook tyres in order to be fast with them.
In Paraguay, Rovanperä faced his biggest problems on Friday, when the surface was harder.
After Rally Paraguay, Rovanperä explained in more detail where things now stand with the issue.
“As soon as we have some soft ground and sand, it’s clearly much better, as there’s more mechanical grip from the road. It’s easier,” Rovanperä explained.
On hard surfaces, Rovanperä is still struggling at times.
“When we have this hard ground, those rallies are always the trickiest,” Rovanperä said.
On hard surfaces, the tyre moves more against the road surface, and that has not suited Rovanperä. However, the Finn has begun to understand better in recent rallies how Hankook tyres work, and as a result his performances have clearly improved compared with the early part of the season.
Rally Finland brought a magnificent victory, and in Paraguay Rovanperä was involved in the battle for the win for a long time. On Saturday in Paraguay, however, a puncture dashed his hopes of victory.
The WRC season continues next week with Rally Chile.
