The Toyota WRC star took part in the traditional Rally Legend event held in San Marino over the weekend and, for the first time in a while, got to perform in front of spectators alongside his father Harri Rovanperä.
Rovanperä competed in the Legend Stars class, and as usual, the top drivers thrilled the crowd.
Currently involved in a tight world championship battle, Rovanperä was now able to simply enjoy driving without the pressure of results – and he did so to the fullest.
“I’m more and more in love with this incredible event!” Rovanperä enthused after the demonstration run.
“t’s one of the best in the world. Amazing cars, so many champions and drivers, and a fantastic crowd — it all creates a unique atmosphere,” Rovanperä continued.
Rovanperä’s experience was certainly made even better by the fact that his father Harri also took part in the event. Harri drove a Seat Cordoba WRC, the same model he competed with in the World Rally Championship in the late 1990s.
Kalle, meanwhile, drove a competition-spec Toyota Starlet. He gave the fans exactly what they came to see: the Finnish driver entertained the crowd with numerous donuts, jumps, and other spectacular tricks.
The rear-wheel-drive machine was already familiar to Kalle from last year’s Killarney Historic Rally, which he entered with Jonne Halttunen. The Irish BMV Rally Team’s competition car produces 360 horsepower.
Kalle and Harri also got the chance to drive together. Kalle shared a video in his Instagram Stories showing himself riding alongside his father – a unique experience in its own right.
Rovanperä will return to more serious competition next week, as the next event on the calendar is the third-to-last round of the World Rally Championship season in Central Europe. Rovanperä currently sits third in the drivers’ standings behind his teammates Sébastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans, trailing Ogier by 21 points.
