Last year, the reigning world champion only contested half of the rallies on the calendar. Rovanperä also took time to test his skills in circuit racing and enjoyed some well-earned downtime.
After that lighter year, Rovanperä put his work gloves back on and launched another bid for a third world title. With just over half of the season completed, the Toyota star currently sits fourth in the championship standings, 24 points behind the leader.
What Rovanperä plans to do after this season remains uncertain. Some of the more extreme rumours even suggest that he may call time on his full-time rally career at the end of the year.
RallyJournal.com questioned Rovanperä about his future during last weekend’s Rally Estonia. The good-humoured Finn gave short replies – but left a lot to the imagination.
Have you thought about what you’ll do next season?
“Well yeah, I’ve thought about it a lot.”
Have you reached a final decision?
“No, I haven’t.”
How likely is it that we’ll see you in the WRC next year?
“No comment on that.”
Next week, Rovanperä will attempt to claim his first-ever win at Rally Finland. The Central Finland gravel classic kicks off on Thursday, July 31.
