Rovanperä claimed victory in the rally by 43.7 seconds ahead of his teammate Elfyn Evans. Toyota secured a one-two finish in the event and achieved a remarkable top-five sweep on the Power Stage. The manufacturer title had already been sealed by Toyota in Central Europe.
“It’s great to be back on tarmac. This was a great weekend. I think Sebastien (Ogier) and I were on a different pace compared to the others. The championship fight is alive again. We’re super strong as a team. Huge thanks to everyone for that,” Rovanperä said.
“Of course, we’re hungry. The task is not easy, but at least our chances have now improved.”
Evans moved ahead of Hyundai’s Ott Tänak on the final stage, securing important points in the title battle.
“The finish wasn’t quite as good. The big thing is that we secured the manufacturers’ championship. Huge thanks to the team for giving us such a fantastic car. Let’s see how the title fight develops,” Evans commented.
“This is where we are now, and it’s all we deserved. We have a lot of work ahead,” Tänak remarked in turn.
After retiring once on Saturday, Sebastien Ogier was the fastest driver on Sunday and topped the Power Stage as well, adding ten points to his tally. Evans now leads the championship by 13 points over Rovanperä and Ogier.
“We tried to push all day. Let’s see how many points we get. That’s life — yesterday things happened that were out of my control. Now we just look ahead,” Ogier said.
Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta finished fourth in the rally. Hyundai’s Adrien Fourmaux was fifth, ahead of Toyota’s Sami Pajari.
“There was a lot to learn again and a few good stage times. There’s still a long way to go, but that’s part of the job. We’ll keep pushing,” Pajari summed up.
The fastest Rally2 driver was Sweden’s Oliver Solberg, who had already secured the WRC2 title earlier. Solberg finished eighth overall. The WRC2 victory in this event went to Czech driver Jan Černý, ahead of compatriot Filip Mareš.
The World Rally Championship continues in early November in Japan, followed by the final round of the season in Saudi Arabia at the end of November.
