Kalle Rovanperä is competing for the first time this weekend in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia series. In Saturday morning’s qualifying session, the Finnish star finished in 22nd place, with a gap of 1.823 seconds to the fastest time.
Rovanperä has had a successful year in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, winning two races. However, his start in Italy has been less impressive. In Monza, Rovanperä races for the Prima Ghinzani Motorsport team, which has not had much success in the series this year.
The fastest driver in Saturday’s qualifying session was Dutchman Robert de Haan, who clocked a time of 1:47.650 at the Monza circuit. De Haan’s compatriot Huub van Eijndhoven registered the second-fastest time, over half a second behind. The third-fastest time was set by South Africa’s Keagan Masters, followed by Larry ten Voorden from the Netherlands and Oliver Gray from Great Britain.
In Friday’s free practice, Rovanperä managed to achieve the 12th-best time, but his performance was weaker on Saturday morning. Both of Rovanperä’s Italian teammates, Pietro Armanni and Simone Iaquinta, finished ahead of him in the results. Iaquinta was the faster of the two Italians, qualifying in 10th place, 1.105 seconds off the lead.
A total of 33 drivers participated in the qualifying session. The first race of the Monza weekend will take place on Saturday, with a second race scheduled for Sunday.
