Halttunen announced a couple of weeks ago that he will be participating in the Finnish Rally Championship round in Lahti with his Toyota Corolla. Halttunen will be driving as a course car, meaning he will take to the route before the championship drivers. Halttunen was already very excited a couple of weeks ago.
“First outing with updated version of this beast for me will be in Lahti,” Halttunen enthused at the time.
Now, Halttunen has completed his first tests with his Toyota Corolla. Halttunen has shared photos and videos of his tests on Instagram. You can view them below or via this link.
“First tests with upgraded Toyota Corolla GT AE86 done. Driving could be much better but the car is awesome,” Halttunen wrote in his post.
Halttunen is well-known as Kalle Rovanperä’s co-driver, but he is also a capable driver in his own right. In 2023, Halttunen participated in the Jyväskylä Winter Rally with a Toyota Corolla GT, where he also served as a course-opening driver.
Halttunen and Rovanperä have been on holiday in recent weeks, as the WRC took a month-long summer break following the Rally Finland. In Finland, Rovanperä and Halttunen faced a huge disappointment when their seemingly certain dominant victory turned into a crash and retirement on the penultimate special stage of the rally.
The Lahti SM Rally will take place on 23-24 August. Over 140 crews have registered for the event. The Lahti Historic Rally will also be held at the same time, featuring competitors such as Jari-Matti Latvala with Janni Hussi as his co-driver, and former rally star Jari Huttunen.
