Originally, Lancia was supposed to make its debut already later this year at the Rallye du Var at the end of November, but the Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale was not ready in time to be brought into full fighting condition. Earlier this week, the Italian manufacturer named its drivers for next season’s World Championship campaign as expected: Yohan Rossel and Nikolay Gryazin.

The duo have already been able to pull on their racing overalls, as Lancia’s updated Rally2 car has been tested in the French Alps. According to the WRC Wings website, which focuses on rally car aerodynamics, the rear of the car has been significantly modified and a new support has been added to the wheel arches.

The purpose of the extended side mounts of the rear wing is to prevent external airflow from entering underneath the wing, reducing pressure and making the wing more effective.

Many are eagerly awaiting the return of the iconic rally car brand to the World Rally Championship, even though Lancia will not be entering the top category straight away. Lancia has also announced that it will not be building a WRC27 car for just over a year’s time, when the championship regulations are set to be renewed. On the other hand, in the 2027 season it should also be possible to fight in the top class with slightly updated Rally2 cars.

Something of Lancia’s return is indicated by the fact that, at least according to the manufacturer itself, 40 Rally2 cars have already been ordered, even though the competitive debut has not yet taken place.
