The World Rallycross Championship’s Promoter announced on Tuesday that it has signed a three-year deal with Portugal’s Lousada circuit to host a World Championship event. Lousada will be part of the World Championship calendar for the first time in 2025.

Lousada is considered the spiritual home of rallycross in Portugal. Located 50 kilometres from Porto, the track hosted European Rallycross Championship events from 1991 to 2008. Now, after a 17-year break, it is making a return to international rallycross.

In recent years, the Lousada track has become familiar through the World Rally Championship. It has been the location for a hugely popular super special stage in Rally Portugal every year since 2015, attracting thousands of fans to watch rally stars in action.

Ahead of its inclusion in the World Rallycross Championship, the Lousada track will undergo a facelift. Turn three will be widened, a new joker lap will be added, and the paddock area will be completely revamped.

The first WRX event at Lousada is scheduled for May 2025.

“We have seen first-hand how much passion there is for motorsport in the Lousada region, and a lot of hard work has gone into putting this deal together,” said Managing Director of the Rallycross Promoter, Arne Dirks.

“That work will continue ahead of the first World RX event at the circuit in 2025, with significant investment into the infrastructure in and around the track aimed at creating a first-class experience for competitors and fans alike.”
