Munster finished eighth overall in Rally Chile, but his performance was at the very least respectable.
Throughout the season, Munster has at times struggled even against his team-mate Josh McErlean, but this time in Chile he was clearly the number one driver in his team.
“It’s been a good weekend overall and I think we showed some strong pace,” Munster sighed with satisfaction.
Munster has made numerous driving errors during the season, but this time they were conspicuously absent.
“We pushed from start to finish without making mistakes, and while there’s always room for improvement, I feel that both the team and I have made a real step forward in performance,” Munster assessed.
All but one of the gravel rallies in the World Rally Championship are now behind. That should suit Munster very well too.
“It’s a positive way to end the gravel events, and now we look ahead to Central European Rally – an event I really enjoy and one I’m looking forward to,” Munster outlined.
For his team-mate McErlean, however, the weekend proved difficult. He ruined his rally right at the beginning, and his event was further hampered by technical problems.
“Its been a challenging weekend, obviously it was a shame to miss out on both Saturdays in Paraguay and now Chile,” McErlean said.
At least some lessons were learned along the way.
“We still need to work on the pace and performance. In Chile it’s been hard to compete with the boys at the top, and we’ve got a lot to take home from the weekend,” McErlean summed up.
