This marks Sesks’ third appearance in the WRC’s top category, driving a Rally1 car. Although the Ford Puma Rally1 car he is using this time is not equipped with a hybrid unit, the Latvian driver is expected to deliver another impressive performance.

Sesks already made waves on Thursday during the shakedown for Rally Chile, setting the second-fastest time. The rally sensation was brimming with excitement after his first test run.

“The car was amazingly fast. Of course, it’s not a good thing for a result that you haven’t been in the car for a while. When you get back, you have forgotten the feelings. And then when you get the feelings, it gives you so much joy at that moment,” Sesks enthused to RallyJournal.com.

“The first run is special because you have all these emotions. And then, of course, the next runs, you start to work on everything, and then you get into a really concentrated mindset. But it’s still amazing joy to drive this car.”

In the Chilean gravel rally, there will be an opportunity to compare two rising stars of the sport, as Finnish driver Sami Pajari will be driving a Toyota Rally1 car. Unlike Sesks, Pajari’s car is equipped with a hybrid unit, giving him an extra boost.

However, Sesks is not focusing on any comparisons with Pajari and remains centred on his own performance.

“We’re still here learning. It’s our third rally, so everyone remembers that. And it’s also the rally which is new for us and not new for the other guys,” Sesks pointed out.

Sesks also revealed that the M-Sport team made an unusual request before the rally.

“The team, what they want is our confident drive, trouble free, and funny stage end interviews,” Sesks said.

Rally Chile begins on Friday with six special stages on the schedule.
