Hyundai Motorsport confirmed the news on social media just ahead of Rally Finland.
There had been widespread rumours throughout the season about Hyundai’s possible departure. With the Korean manufacturer preparing to join the World Endurance Championship (WEC), many had questioned whether its rally programme would continue.
But the speculation has now ended. Hyundai is committed to remaining in the WRC going forward.
“We are pleased to confirm that Hyundai Motorsport will continue its participation in the FIA World Rally Championship in 2026,” said team principal Cyril Abiteboul.
“This decision reflects the strong momentum we’ve built in recent events and the regulatory support from the FIA, which will allow us to further develop our Rally1 car and remain competitive at the highest level. This additional season also gives us the time to shape the future of Hyundai Motorsport with greater confidence,” Abiteboul added.
Hyundai had a difficult start to the season, but the team has found strong form over the summer. Estonian star Ott Tänak took the lead in the drivers’ championship at Rally Estonia in July and heads into Rally Finland, which begins on Thursday evening, as the favourite to win.
