Sesks was still able to challenge Kalle Rovanperä almost to the end in the battle for the lead on Friday, but on Saturday morning, the Latvian encountered a greater challenge.

“Actually, I had some difficulties on the morning stages. Of course, they were completely different stages compared to yesterday and perhaps they looked easier than yesterday’s stages. I think we lost some time on the faster sections,” Sesks recounted his morning.

“I’m still learning the car, of course. In some places, I’m a bit too cautious and I’m still trying to find the right rhythm, so it’s not easy to drive such a fast rally and keep up with the others,” Sesks continued.

Sesks was then asked again about a familiar topic. The Latvian drove in Poland without a hybrid unit, but in Latvia, his car has one.

“Oh, you still remember that? During these days, it has felt like many have completely forgotten it,” Sesks laughed towards the journalist.

Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier had a strong Saturday morning and moved past Sesks into second place in the rally. However, Ogier has not been completely satisfied. The French champion also went off the road.

“I could have done much better, to be honest. In the morning, I wasn’t pushing hard enough. I made a few mistakes here and there and even ended up in a ditch, which is never a good thing,” Ogier recounted.

Luckily for Ogier, the ditch was empty and did not contain any stones, for example.

“Most of the ditches look quite empty, but they are really deep, so it’s not easy to get out of them. I came down the last straight of the stage at high speed, but unfortunately, the last corner was quite soft, and as a result, I ended up in the ditch,” Ogier explained.
