Just before the start of the Safari Rally, Greensmith fell ill with gastroenteritis and had to tackle the challenging rally while not fully fit.

However, this did not slow down the 27-year-old British driver, as he took the class victory in the WRC2 and impressively finished sixth overall in the rally.

Greensmith relied on rehydration tablets and persevered to the end of the rally, even though he was not feeling very strong.

“I don’t know what I’m more proud of not shitting myself on Friday or actually winning the rally, it has been a long weekend but I’m very happy,” Greensmith joked after the rally, according to Motorsport.com.

Greensmith sealed the deal on Friday when his main rival, Oliver Solberg, suffered tire puncture and fell more than four minutes behind the leader.

Greensmith started his season in Kenya, and the opening turned out to be very successful.

“It’s a brilliant way to start the season, the car has been impeccable. There was no point that I thought I was going to (give up on the rally due to illness) because I knew I couldn’t from my own personal thing, ” Greensmith said.

Thus, the Brit decided to persevere to the finish line despite being under the weather, and it paid off.

“Thankfully, I started to get better. We did such a good job on Friday even being ill and it gave us the foundations for it to be easy to control for the rest of the weekend.”

“Having a three-and-a-half minute lead is much easier than having to fight but for sure going slowly you can sometimes make mistakes. The guys in the team have been saying that is it my best rally there was not a single mistake all rally, so I’m very happy.”
