Munster stepped up to the top class last season, but was clearly overshadowed by his team-mate Adrien Fourmaux.
While Fourmaux, who later moved to Hyundai, claimed an impressive five podiums during the season, Munster was more or less just taking part in the series.
For this season, Munster’s task was supposed to become easier from the outset, as his team-mate became the inexperienced Irishman Josh McErlean. In addition, Munster already had valuable experience from the WRC.
But it has not shown in quite the desired way. Munster has at times struggled even with McErlean’s pace, and genuine standout performances have been missing again this season.
Munster has received fully deserved criticism for his performances, but his co-driver Louis Louka sees things in a much more positive light than the general perception.
“For me, Greg is the most underrated driver in the WRC,” Louka surprised in Dirtfish’s podcast.
“People don’t feel that he deserves what he has, but if you compare his pace per kilometre to others at this stage of their career, he is not far away at all,” Louka continued.
In reality, Munster still consistently loses more than a second per kilometre to the front-runners. Many other drivers who have competed in the WRC have been able to develop more quickly than him, managing to reduce the gap to under a second per kilometre already in their second year in the championship.
