The season once again begins with the ever-unpredictable Rally Monte Carlo, so it would be wise to keep excessive enthusiasm in check. Despite his young age, Solberg has already competed several times in the French Alps, so the rally’s tricks should be familiar to him.

“Well, Rally Monte Carlo, I have to love it. Even if it is such a tricky and horrible rally, you have to love it. I’m really looking forward to it.”

“It’s just great to start the season at the Monte Carlo casino. This rally is always the most unique and crazy experience, and also the most difficult one. But we all love it,” Solberg sighs.

Last season in the WRC2 category, Solberg dominated on all surfaces. In the summer he also proved that he belongs in a Rally1 car, when the Swede drove to victory at Rally Estonia. There is therefore no shortage of pace on gravel, but how will things go on slippery tarmac?

“My approach to setting up the car is very similar. In the end, all cars have four wheels. Of course, the cars are a bit different, but the philosophy of what I need from the car and the kind of feeling I need is basically the sam,” Solberg explains.

“I try to work in the same way, fine-tune the car in the same way and focus on the same things that I need.”

Rally Monte Carlo gets under way on Wednesday with the shakedow. The actual rally starts on Thursday with three stages, two of which are traditionally run in the dark.

The rally finishes on Sunday in Monaco.
