Last weekend, Solberg made his debut with the Finnish Printsport team at Rally Monte-Carlo. The team’s car was driven last season by Sami Pajari, who clinched the WRC2 title at the end of the year, narrowly beating Solberg.

Although Solberg wasn’t competing for WRC2 points in Monte-Carlo, he was pleased with the experience he gained. Early in the rally, he damaged his car and lost significant time, but otherwise, his pace was the best in the Rally2 category.

“I have to say it’s been a great weekend, actually, except for a little mishap on the first stage with a broken rim, but the rest has been, I have to say, fantastic,” Solberg said after the rally.

“The car, the good feeling, and being consistently fast on every stage throughout have been fantastic,” he added.

Solberg had a long break from driving before Monte-Carlo. On top of that, he was competing on a surface that was somewhat unfamiliar to him, yet things went relatively well.

“I don’t do a lot of tarmac rallies every year, and my last rally was three months ago. So it’s nice to be back, get the feeling straight away, and, you know, to be part of the Toyota family. Having my first race with them is very special. Already now, being so good, it’s looking very good for the future, and that makes me very happy,” Solberg said enthusiastically.

Solberg didn’t regret not collecting points in Monte-Carlo.

“No, never regret, Monte Carlo is not for scoring points,” Solberg laughed.

“Of course, one day I have to, especially when I’m in WRC. But right now, I just wanted to start with Toyota and see how it is. And, you know, it’s the first time also for Toyota being this competitive on tarmac, and for me also to manage to put that together with all of us working hard before this race,” Solberg concluded.
