Oliver Solberg ultimately won the Monte Carlo WRC Rally in commanding fashion and showed, at the latest now, what a top-class talent he is.
The value of the performance was further enhanced by the fact that this year’s Monte Carlo WRC Rally offered the toughest challenge in terms of conditions in years.
Solberg quickly pulled away into a fairly safe lead and then simply controlled the situation. Managing the situation when holding a strong lead is not always very easy.
“It’s always quite difficult, whether you’re leading or not. But throughout the whole weekend I’ve really enjoyed being able to sit alongside him,” co-driver Elliott Edmondson said.
Edmondson is already an experienced co-driver, but even so, the performances of the rally stars in the ever-demanding Monte Carlo left him gasping for breath.
“It’s absolutely incredible to see how they’re able to control these kinds of conditions. Of course these guys are the best in the world, but it’s still something to witness,” Edmondson enthused.
“So huge respect to Oliver and all of these guys,” he continued.
The so-called gravel crew played a major role in Monte Carlo for every crew. That’s always the case, but now the role of the gravel crews was emphasised even more.
“We also have to give a huge amount of credit to our gravel crew, who did an excellent job throughout the weekend. Without them we wouldn’t have been standing on the top step of the podium, that’s for sure,” Edmondson praised.
“It’s extremely important to get all the critical information and get it to exactly the right place. This victory was just as much theirs as it was ours,” Edmondson continued.
