Among the WRC teams, Hyundai and Toyota began their preparations for the Rally Finland on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Kalle Rovanperä was in action at Toyota’s test area, while Hyundai’s Ott Tänak took the wheel on the team’s test roads in the Jämsä region.

Tänak, who has celebrated victory in the Rally Finland three times, clocked up the kilometres on the fast gravel road, fine-tuning the settings of the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car. The Estonian driver didn’t hold back, spectacularly launching his car over the jumps.

During the test day, Tänak also tested a so-called virtual chicane, which was used experimentally during the shakedown of last week’s Latvian WRC event.

In last weekend’s Rally Latvia, Tänak finished third. The Hyundai star suffered from his early starting position at the beginning of the race, but his pace improved as the weekend progressed. On Super Sunday, the Estonian finally claimed the full 12 points and moved up to second in the championship standings, just eight points behind his teammate Thierry Neuville.

In the Rally Finland, Tänak is once again one of the top favourites for victory alongside Rovanperä. Rovanperä won in Latvia, as well as a few weeks earlier in Poland. However, the Finnish star has yet to win his home event.

The Rlaly Finland will take place from 1st to 4th August.
