Tänak currently sits second in the standings with three rallies remaining. Hyundai’s Estonian star is 34 points behind his teammate Thierry Neuville, a significant gap to close in the final rounds of the season.

Tänak secured his second-place position in the WRC standings just over a week ago at the Acropolis Rally in Greece, where he finished third. To have any chance of challenging Neuville, Tänak will need top results in the upcoming events.
Tänak won his first world title in 2019, and while he is still in the race for a second championship, the task ahead is daunting.
“Hope is the last thing to die. So it’s always alive, and we just need to keep pushing,” Tänak said philosophically.
“Thierry is in a very strong position, and with three rallies to go, let’s see what happens. But team-wise, in both championships, we are doing well,” Tänak said, referring to Hyundai’s clear lead in the manufacturers’ championship.
The next round of the season will take place next week in Chile. Tänak has fond memories of Chile: the country hosted its first WRC event in 2019, and Tänak took the victory. Chile returned to the WRC calendar last year – and once again, Tänak came out on top.
Tänak claimed his first Chile victory driving for Toyota, and last year’s win came behind the wheel of a Ford. Now, he has the chance to take a win in Chile with Hyundai.
“What’s happened in the past is in the past. So what’s coming is the future,” Tänak said in response to a question about whether he could win in Chile with a third different car brand.
The Rally Chile will take place from 26-29 September around the city of Concepcion.
