Tänak and Järveoja said goodbye – at least for now – to the World Rally Championship after last season. Since then, speculation has grown over whether the Estonian stars might one day return to the sport’s top level.
Tänak himself admitted at the end of the year that he has no intention of competing in 2026. Should they wish to return in 2027, the WRC would certainly welcome them back with open arms.
New regulations coming for the 2027 season will further open the door for competition in the top category. Speaking in a video interview with Estonian outlet auto24.ee, Järveoja said that they currently have no agreements in place for the coming years.
“Actually, you really don’t know what will happen in 2027. New regulations are coming, as we know, but there is no guarantee that we will be back on the stages then,” Järveoja said.
“There could certainly be opportunities, but it’s not certain whether they will come our way. Today I would say that I won’t think about rallying for a few months, and then we’ll see what life brings,” he added.
Järveoja did confirm that he will still compete this year — but not in the WRC. He is expected to appear in national-level events, with potential WRC outings coming only as a spectator.
“Well, I will definitely be competing in the rallysprint series. I’d like to believe that I will be present at least at some events.”
“My current understanding is also that there are no rallies planned, and we don’t have any car or team available, so that’s the situation,” Järveoja underlined.
The 2026 World Rally Championship begins in three weeks with the iconic Rally Monte Carlo.
