After finishing as runner-up five times in his career, Neuville was finally crowned world champion. The Hyundai driver delivered consistent performances throughout the season, earning his well-deserved title.

Kalle Rovanperä, the two-time reigning champion, did not compete for the title this year, as he only contested a partial season with Toyota. However, Rovanperä will return as a full-time competitor next year, aiming to reclaim his crown.

Last weekend, Neuville joined his teammate Dani Sordo at a rally event organised by Sordo. During the event, Neuville gave an interview to Marca, where the Spanish outlet directly asked whether Rovanperä’s absence created a big opportunity for him to win the championship.

Neuville elegantly avoided the question.

“This season has been unusual: a new scoring system, many drivers competing only part-time, and (Ott) Tänak returning to Hyundai. I’ve been leading the championship since the first rally, and it’s been a long time since that happened. Many challenges have arisen throughout the season, making it extremely tough and demanding, both physically and mentally,” Neuville replied.

“I’ve had to open the stages all year, which made it difficult to stay motivated at times, even though we were working incredibly hard. Under these circumstances, we knew we wouldn’t have many opportunities to win individual rallies. But I think we’ve managed the situation well,” the Belgian added.

Neuville believes that securing his first championship will allow him to approach future rallies with less pressure. His goal is to enjoy the seasons ahead more fully.

“I’m proud of winning the World Championship, but the most important thing for me will be to ease some of the pressure I’ve felt until now and to have fun competing, even if my motivation to win remains the same,” the Hyundai driver said.

Neuville also assured that the championship would not affect his future in the WRC.

“I have a contract until 2025, and next year I’ll go out and try to win again. If Hyundai wants to continue in 2026, I’ll be there. Nothing changes in that regard,” Neuville confirmed.
