Initially, Friday’s rally day ended with Hyundai’s Ott Tänak arriving at the evening service as the leader, with Evans just 0.4 seconds behind the Estonian. However, late in the evening, the clerk of the course adjusted Evans’ notional time from the first special stage.

As a result, Evans moved into the lead of the gravel rally by a margin of three seconds over Tänak. The times of Toyota’s Sami Pajari and M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux were also adjusted slightly, but these changes did not affect the overall standings.

The first stage of Rally Chile had been cancelled after just three cars completed it due to safety concerns. Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier, along with Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville and Tänak, were the only drivers to finish the stage, while the remaining drivers were assigned notional times.

These notional times were later reviewed, resulting in some adjustments to the leaderboard.

Evans, who is chasing his first victory of the season, now leads Tänak. Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä is 10.1 seconds off the lead in third place, while Pajari, in fourth, trails Rovanperä by two seconds. M-Sport Ford’s Gregoire Munster will begin Saturday’s stages in fifth, 13.7 seconds behind the leader.

Rally Chile continues on Saturday with six special stages. The rally day starts at 14:07 CET.
