Co-driver Dai Roberts died in a crash that occurred on the eighth special stage of the event. James Williams, who was driving a Hyundai i20 N Rally2, was injured in the crash and taken to hospital. However, Williams’ injuries are not life-threatening.

According to Police Scotland, Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. The event was immediately halted following the accident.

“Motorsport UK sends its condolences to Dai’s family and friends, the Jim Clark Rally, Jim Clark Memorial Motor Club and members of the motorsport community,” according to a statement from the  Motorsport UK.

“Motorsport UK has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident and will work closely with the Jim Clark Rally event organizers and Jim Clark Memorial Motor Club and will cooperate with the relevant authorities.”

Roberts was part of the rallying family that had already experienced great sorrow. Dai Roberts’ older brother, Gareth Roberts, died in 2012 during the Targa Florio Rally when the car driven by Craig Breen went off the road. Breen himself later lost his life during testing for the 2023 Rally Croatia.

Dai Roberts, who died at the age of 39, also competed as a driver in the lower categories. As a co-driver, he won the British Asphalt Championship in 2022 together with Williams.
