Sebastien Ogier answered the burning question: “Now everybody wants me to fight for the title”

However, the new points system allowed Ogier to reduce the gap to WRC leader Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville by only one point. If the old points system were still in use, the gap between the two would be just three points in Neuville’s favor, and Ogier would be fully in the championship fight.

Toyota experienced a harsh catastrophe in Jyväskylä. Elfyn Evans retired on Saturday and then went off the road again on Sunday. As a result, Evans did not score any points in Finland. It doesn’t take much courage to say that this eliminated Evans from the championship fight.

Now, Ogier is Toyota’s only hope in the championship battle, and there has been much speculation in rally circles about whether Ogier might drive all the remaining races of the season and go for his ninth world championship.

“I don’t know. I really don’t know,” Ogier responded.

“I struggle to see what happened in this championship with a points system, which makes no sense at all,” Ogier continued.

Ogier last competed in a full season in 2021. Since then, the French champion has only driven partial seasons. There is a clear reason for this.

“I didn’t value championship so much anymore. That’s the reason I never really were in a fight for another title,” Ogier said.

“Now everybody wants me to fight for the title, but I don’t feel so much for it at the moment. Especially with this point system, which is a joke,” Ogier stated.

Toyota’s team principal Jari-Matti Latvala might have a different opinion and may request a meeting with Ogier.

“Yeah, I’m sure he will,” Ogier laughed.

“So first, it’s summer time. Now let’s let’s enjoy that time,” the Frenchman added.
