Sebastien Ogier buys himself a “crazy” race car

Sebastien Ogier is taking a short break from the World Rally Championship in July — but that doesn’t mean he’s staying away from the driver’s seat.

Ogier had already confirmed that he will skip Rally Estonia, which takes place in mid-July. Earlier this week, it was revealed that he’s added Rally Finland to his schedule, with the event kicking off on July 31st.

But before that, Ogier will get behind the wheel in a very different kind of race — on home soil in France.

“I have actually a nice race plan in two weeks: autocross with a buggy close to my home,” Ogier told RallyJournal.com after last weekend’s Acropolis Rally in Greece.

“This year, it’s the 50th anniversary of the organisation of this race. Which is, five kilometres from my parents home, so close to Gap. It’s a race which gave me my first taste of motorsport as a kids. I’m always happy when I find a little bit of time to do that one. I’ve done it like 2 or 3 times already and obviously all my Gap supporters or friends are happy to see me there,” Ogier smiled.

And Ogier won’t be driving just any machine. His Super Buggy-class racer is powered by a Porsche GT3 RS engine.

“I just bought this crazy machine with like a four wheel drive buggy. I’m picking it up this week in Czech Republic,” Ogier revealed.

“520 horsepower, so on 800 kilos it should be quite good,” the Frenchman laughed.

Ogier shared photos of his new ride on Friday after picking it up in the Czech Republic.
