Ogier claimed his third win of the season on Sunday by taking victory in Sardinia’s challenging gravel rally. He ultimately beat Hyundai’s Ott Tänak by 7.9 seconds.
Thanks to the win, Ogier has climbed to second in the WRC drivers’ standings—a truly remarkable situation, considering the Frenchman has skipped two rallies this season.
The Toyota driver has started four WRC events in 2025, and his performance has been nearly flawless: three victories and one second place.
Championship leader Elfyn Evans finished fourth in Sardinia, but his closest rivals were able to reduce the gap to the Welshman. Ogier is now just 19 points behind his teammate.
Kalle Rovanperä finished third in Sardinia but collected the second-highest number of points for the weekend by winning the Power Stage and topping the Super Sunday classification. He lost second place in the standings to Ogier by a single point—but the Finn likely won’t be too bothered.
Next up is the Acropolis Rally in Greece, where road position will once again play a crucial role. Evans will be the first car on the road for Friday’s opening leg, followed by Ogier and Rovanperä.
Sardinia runner-up Tänak remains firmly in the title fight, now 25 points adrift of Evans. His teammate Thierry Neuville, however, faces a much tougher challenge, trailing the leader by 50 points.
