Sébastien Ogier won Rally Chile and at the same time climbed to the top of the drivers’ championship standings.
The victory was also a highly significant milestone for Ogier’s Toyota team. Their 103rd win made them the most successful manufacturer in the history of the WRC.
Toyota returned to the World Rally Championship in 2017. Since then, the team has enjoyed almost fairy-tale success in the series.
And that success has been relentless this season as well. Toyota have allowed their fiercest rival Hyundai just a single win this year. Every other rally has ended in celebration for the Japanese manufacturer.
“I’m very, very happy for everybody at Toyota Gazoo Racing. I’m sure our chairman, Akio Toyoda, is also happy at the moment. And of course, I’d like to take another opportunity to thank him for the support,” said Sébastien Ogier after Chile.
According to Ogier, it is precisely the backing from senior management that has made Toyota’s domination possible.
“All of this is happening because we have great backing from the top, every single day. And we are all pushing the limit for better, just as he taught all of us,” Ogier highlighted.
This season, Ogier is already chasing the ninth world championship title of his career. And the Frenchman believes it is achievable with Toyota.
“so far we can be very proud of what we have achieved. And I believe we can increase these numbers in the coming weeks or months,” the French champion concluded.
